Leslie A. Berkoff is a Partner with the firm where she serves as the Chair of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice Group, is the former Chair of the Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights Practice Group, and serves on the firm’s Management Committee. Ms. Berkoff splits her time between these two Practice Groups. In the restructuring space, she concentrates her practice in chapter 11 cases, bankruptcy litigation and corporate workouts where she represents a variety of corporate debtors, trustees, creditors and creditor committees both nationally and locally. Ms. Berkoff’s Dispute Resolution practice has her frequently serving as an ad hoc and panel mediator, she is on the Mediation Panels for the Eastern and Southern Districts of the United States Bankruptcy Courts in New York and the United States Bankruptcy Courts in Delaware and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, as well as the Commercial Mediation Panel for Nassau County, Bronx County and the Nassau County Bar Association. Ms. Berkoff is a trained arbitrator and serves on the American Arbitration Association’s National Roster of Commercial Arbitrators and Mediators, the AAA-ICDR International Panel and is a member of the AAA-ICDR Council. Ms. Berkoff also serves as a member of the Second Circuit United States Court of Appeals Pro Bono Appellate Mediation Panel and is a Special Master in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, First and Second Judicial Departments Mediation Programs. Ms. Berkoff is also frequently appointed by Judges in both the New York County and Nassau County Courts as a Receiver and Special Master.
Prior to joining Moritt Hock & Hamroff LLP, Ms. Berkoff served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jerome Feller, United States Bankruptcy Judge in the Eastern District of New York, from 1991 to 1993 and to the Honorable Allyne R. Ross, Federal Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of New York, from 1990 to 1991.
Ms. Berkoff speaks and publishes extensively and is a recognized leader in her field.

Ms. Berkoff is a long-time member of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation’s (IWIRC) and from 2004-2008 she served as Chair of IWIRC, in addition to serving on its Board of Directors for over twenty-five years. She also served as Co-Chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) Healthcare Insolvency Committee from 2008 to 2011 and Co-Chair of ABI’s Mediation Committee from 2018 to 2020. She currently serves as a Contributing Editor for the ABI’s Journal for a regular column entitled Mediation Matters and was Co-Editor of the ABI’s Bankruptcy Mediation Manual (2016) and its Health Care Insolvency Manual, Third Edition (2012). Ms. Berkoff also serves as the American Bar Association (“ABA”) Business Law Section’s representative on the Dispute Resolution Advisory Council, and is the Chair of the Dispute Resolution Committee, the Vice-Chair of Programming for the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the Business Law Section and the Vice-Chair of the Bankruptcy Study & Policy Committee. She is a contributing editor for the ABA’s publication Business Law Today on Dispute Resolution. She serves as the Chair of the Mediation Sub-Committee of Chapter 11 Lawyers and Judges Advisory Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of New York. She is also an active member of the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers and the Commercial Law League of America. She is also actively involved in the New York State Bar Association where she is the former Co-Chair of the Mediation Committee and Ethical Issues and Ethical Standards Committee (June 2020 to July 2022) and an executive member of the Dispute Resolution Section and the Corporate Counsel Committee of the Business Law Section. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the New York State Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Section’s Annual Mediation Tournament. She also serves on both the Bankruptcy Committee and Dispute Resolution Committee of the New York City Bar Association. In addition, Ms. Berkoff serves on the Board of Editors of Pratt’s Journal of Bankruptcy Law and is a past President and board member of Hofstra School of Law’s Alumni Association. Ms. Berkoff has also been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Hofstra Law School. Ms. Berkoff is a past member of the Conference Committee for the Imagine Awards.
