Leslie A. Berkoff is a Partner with the firm where she serves as the Chair of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice Group and is the former Chair of the Bankruptcy Practice Group. Ms. Berkoff splits her time between these two areas. She concentrates a significant portion of her practice in the area of bankruptcy and restructuring litigation and corporate workouts, and she represents a variety of corporate debtors, trustees, creditors and creditor committees both nationally and locally. Ms. Berkoff is an experienced litigator and also handles corporate transactions both locally and nationally. In addition, Ms. Berkoff has an active alternate dispute resolution practice and frequently serves as a mediator and an arbitrator. She is on the Mediation Panels for the Eastern, Southern and Northern Districts of the United States Bankruptcy Courts in New York and the United States Bankruptcy Courts in Delaware and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, as well as the Commercial Mediation Panel for Nassau County, Bronx County and Richmond County as well as the Nassau County Bar Association’s Mediation Panel. Ms. Berkoff serves on the American Arbitration Association’s National Roster of Commercial Arbitrators and Mediators and the AAA-ICDR International Panel and is a member of the AAA-ICDR Council. Ms. Berkoff also serves as a member of the Second Circuit United States Court of Appeals Pro Bono Appellate Mediation Panel and is a Special Master for the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department. Ms. Berkoff also serves as a Member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Dispute Resolution Section’s Advisory Council and is the incoming Chair of the Business Law Section’s Dispute Resolution Committee. She is also active in many Bankruptcy Committees of the ABA Business Law Section. Ms. Berkoff is the Contributing Editor for the Journal Mediation Matters column for the American Bankruptcy Institute and a Contributing Editor for several of the ABA’s Business Section’s publications on the topic of dispute resolution. She is currently the Chair of the Mediation Sub-Committee of the Chapter 11 Lawyers and Judges’ Advisory Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of New York.
Prior to joining Moritt Hock & Hamroff LLP, Ms. Berkoff served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jerome Feller, United States Bankruptcy Judge in the Eastern District of New York, from 1991 to 1993 and to the Honorable Allyne R. Ross, Federal Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of New York, from 1990 to 1991.
Ms. Berkoff speaks and publishes extensively and is a recognized leader in her field.

Ms. Berkoff is a long time member of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation’s (IWIRC) and from 2004-2008 she served as Chair of IWIRC, in addition to serving on its Board of Directors for over twenty-five years. She also served as Co-Chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) Healthcare Insolvency Committee from 2008 to 2011 and Co-Chair of ABI’s Mediation Committee from 2018 to 2020. She currently serves as a Contributing Editor for the ABI’s Journal for a regular column entitled Mediation Matters and was Co-Editor of the ABI’s Bankruptcy Mediation Manual (2016) and its Health Care Insolvency Manual, Third Edition (2012). Ms. Berkoff also serves in the Business Law Section of the ABA as a Program Chair of the Business Bankruptcy Committee, Vice-Chair of the Business Law Section’s Bankruptcy Study & Policy Committee and Incoming Chair of the Dispute Resolution Committee, as well as, a contributing editor for Business Law Today on dispute resolution topics. She is an active member of Women’s Advocate Council of the Litigation Section of the ABA and a member of Women in Dispute Resolution. She is also an active member of the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers as well as the Nassau County Bar Association where she served as a past Chair of its Bankruptcy Committee. She is also actively involved in the New York State Bar Association where she is the former Co-Chair of the Mediation Committee and current Co-Chair of the Ethical Issues and Ethical Standards Committee (June 2020 to present) of the Dispute Resolution Section. She is an active member of the Corporate Counsel Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association and serves on both the Bankruptcy Committee and Dispute Resolution Committee of the New York City Bar Association. In addition, Ms. Berkoff serves on the Board of Editors of Pratt’s Journal of Bankruptcy Law and is a past President and board member of Hofstra School of Law’s Alumni Association. Ms. Berkoff has also been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Hofstra Law School. Ms. Berkoff is currently a member of the Conference Committee for the Imagine Awards.
