Alexander Widell is a partner in Moritt Hock’s Litigation Practice Group and the firm’s senior trial lawyer. Consistently ranked among the top litigators in New York, Mr. Widell has over 35 years of experience representing public and private corporations, partnerships and individuals in all types of disputes, with a particular focus on complex, high stakes commercial and business litigation. Mr. Widell has vast experience in litigating issues concerning corporate governance and securities fraud, and has represented directors and officers, underwriters and certified public accountants in federal securities cases and investigations brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission and private plaintiffs. He regularly counsels directors and officers concerning matters of corporate governance and derivative litigation, as well as individual and institutional fiduciaries in trusts and estates litigation. Mr. Widell also litigates complex employment disputes, and has successfully represented both employees and employers and their management in non-compete litigation and in lawsuits brought under the state and federal discrimination laws. He also conducts discrimination-related investigations on behalf of the New York State Assembly. Mr. Widell’s discrimination practice also extends to the defense of municipalities in connection with claims brought under the United States Constitution, the Religious Land Use and Institutional Persons Act, and related anti-discrimination statutes.

Mr. Widell is also well-versed in alternative dispute resolution, and has tried cases to conclusion in arbitrations conducted under the auspices of the American Arbitration Association, the New York Stock Exchange and FINRA.

As a recognized leader in his field, Mr. Widell has served as a speaker and frequent author on various topics relating to complex business litigation.

Mr. Widell was also an adjunct professor at The New York Law School where he taught legal writing and research.
