Construction Associate (Garden City Office)
We are seeking an Associate with 2-4 years of experience to join our Construction practice. The role focuses on representing owners, developers, general contractors, construction managers, specialty trade and subcontractors, design professionals, and sureties in both transactional and dispute-related matters. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction litigation and disputes; exposure to construction contracts and transactional work is strongly preferred. Candidates with a commercial litigation background and an interest in learning the transactional side of construction law are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
• Draft, review, and negotiate construction-related agreements, including owner, general contractor, construction manager, subcontractor, and related access or neighboring property agreements
• Advise clients on construction-related issues, including contract interpretation, scope of work disputes, delay claims, extra work claims, mechanic’s liens, and bond claims
• Support construction litigation and dispute matters, including drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery materials
• Participate in written discovery, including document review and responses
• Take and defend depositions and assist with hearings, trials, and ADR proceedings
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda across construction and construction-adjacent practice matters
• Collaborate with partners and attorneys across construction and construction-adjacent practice areas
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• License to practice law in good standing in New York
• 2-4 years of experience in construction litigation, construction law, or commercial litigation with exposure to construction-related matters
• Experience with construction contracts and transactional work not required but preferred
• Ability to manage multiple matters and work independently while collaborating with partners and attorneys
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact directly with clients and counterparties
• Experience with labor or employment issues related to construction projects is a plus
Salary
$140-180K DOE
