MH&H Hosts “I Am Jane Doe” Event In Recognition Of Women’s History Month

On March 27, 2017, as part of Moritt Hock & Hamroff’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity, the firm hosted a private screening of the movie “I Am Jane Doe” at The Bellmore Playhouse in Bellmore for clients and friends of the firm. The event coincided with March being Women’s History Month.

The critically acclaimed documentary film chronicles the battle that American mothers are waging on behalf of their teenage daughters – victims of online sex trafficking. The film also follows the teenage girls and their mothers as they seek justice. The film was narrated by Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain and produced by award-winning director Mary Mazzio. 50% of the production company’s fee was donated to organizations serving Jane Doe children. The showing was followed by refreshments and a spirited discussion lead by the Safe Center Long Island.

To cite just one review, Ann Hornaday wrote in The Washington Post, “In “I Am Jane Doe,” filmmaker Mary Mazzio reveals the sordid world of underage sex trafficking, specifically as it pertains to young women who were forced into prostitution, their “services” made available on the online classified site Backpage.com… I am observing the self-evident fact that film has exceptional – maybe even unique – power to shape and inform our norms, expectations and desires.”
