Karaoke Promotion for Beer Manufacturer

One of the world’s largest beer manufacturers, Pilsner Urquell, came to Moritt Hock & Hamroff LLP with a problem. It wanted to run a marketing promotion for one of its brands in California which involved customers in numerous bars being given the opportunity to make a karaoke CD which they could take home with them. After learning that the particular state involved had a liquor law regulation prohibiting a bar from giving customers ‘something of value’ which could arguably have included the CD, the company was concerned that it would not be able to launch the marketing campaign.

After researching the applicable regulations, Moritt Hock & Hamroff LLP determined that an exception to the regulation for ‘competitive events’ held in bars could transform the potentially problematic karaoke promotion into an even more powerful marketing vehicle. Moritt Hock & Hamroff LLP arranged to have the state-wide karaoke promotion sanctioned as an official contest under the auspice of a leading karaoke publication and drafted all of the agreements with the various parties which enabled the client to execute the state-wide summer-long promotion free from regulatory interruption. The promotion was so successful that it was nominated for a national promotional industry award.
