Leslie Berkoff Featured Speaker at Association For Conflict Resolution’s Mediation Seminar

Leslie Berkoff, a partner of the firm, will be a featured speaker at the Association for Conflict Resolution’s (Chicago Chapter) seminar “Get A Grip! Wrangling The Mediation Process To Improve Your Chances of Success In Multi-Party Disputes” on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Loyola University School of Law in Chicago.

While mediation provides a powerful tool for the resolution of multi-party disputes, the added complexity of facts, legal issues and potentially competing interests of the various parties require that advocates and mediators utilize different techniques to achieve success. This moderated discussion will explore ways to tailor the process to the needs of the multiple parties, select an effective mediator, manage competing interests, and incorporate demands of the parties that might not have emerged in the original deal or transaction.

During this 90-minute program, providing approximately 1.5 credits of CLE, the expert panel consisting of experienced advocates, in-house counsel and mediators, will share practical advice on how you can prepare for complex, multi-party mediations and optimize the effectiveness of the process. Areas covered will include:

  • Mediator selection
  • The mediation process (consensus building, stakeholder representation, experts, pre-mediation statements and calls, etc.)
  • Tailoring the process to meet the parties’ needs (driving interests, intangible considerations, business concerns, etc.)
  • Case studies
  • Wrapping-up the mediation
